Don’t Walk Away In Silence

In the amNY today, there was an interesting article that involved Joy Division and Catholic Schools.

While I generally am more in favor of Joy Divison than I am of Catholic Schools:

a: This seems like a great school
b: and also a fantastic interaction that reminds me of how much I love this fair city

Yes, let’s be more indulgent.

For a variety of reasons, I’ve been reading out loud a lot recently. Specifically I’ve been reading poetry out loud, in some part because of the brevity of the medium.

In the midst of this reading…out loud, I found this publication. It’s fantastic.

Also, for a couple of months now, I’ve been trying to find the poem that this excerpt is from:

“that each of us lives in other’s minds, as they live in ours
sometimes flaring in images, sometimes feeling each other’s flesh. Each night
before I got o bed I pass myself on the stairs.”

It’s attributed to S. Berg, but I can’t figure out who that is, or what poem it is. Do you know?

This piece by Richard The is fairly fascinating to watch. If I weren’t so sleepy, I would probably write more (via We Make Money Not Art)

Things I Learned Recently From a Cab Driver

    - Women in New York are snakes
    - Women in California and Phoenix, Arizona are blonde and nice
    - This is the quickest route to the airport
    - Miami is the best part of Florida
    - When people go to the beach in the summer, they drive their cars to get there. They are assholes
    - No, really. This is the quickest route to the airport.
    - You don’t believe me that New York women are snakes? How outrageous.

Its A Good Thing Romeo $

So apparently I still really love the 1996 Romeo and Juliet soundtrack. I’ve been listening to it obsessively at work for the past week. Its the perfect marriage of rock, alternative, trip-rap and swoony swoon music. The line up being;

Garbage #1 Crush
Everclear Local God
Gavin Friday Angel
One Inch Punch Pretty Piece of Flesh
Des’ree Kissing You (Love Theme from Romeo + Juliet)
Butthole Surfers Whatever (I Had a Dream)
The Cardigans Lovefool
Kym Mazelle Young Hearts Run Free
Quindon Tarver Everybody’s Free (to Feel Good)
Mundy To You I Bestow
Radiohead Talk Show Host
Stina Nordenstam Little Star
The Wannadies You and Me Song

Track 7, the love me, love me, song is the serious jam. Thats when the album gets really hopping, tracks 7-12. When my cousin first gave me the album for Heyzeus’ birthday, when I was 13 and brother was 10, we listened to it on repeat. Brother loved the disco track, Young Hearts Run Free, harder then any gay man or middle aged momma and daddyo could. What a little angel he was, “just one more time sister.” From that moment on I wished him gay and treated him as such, dancing around our father’s living room, choreographing our discoteque moves. We weren’t troubled tweens, just gay and dancey, thanks to this album. Which is way better than the movie. Well, we don’t always get what we want, brother is not the gay one, but atleast we’ll always have this.

and this song got me through puberty

This is Just to Say

I’ve been obsessively listening to this recording of William Carlos Williams’ poem ‘This is Just to Say’. It’s so simply beautiful, and honestly, i’ve probably listened to it 27 times today.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

film — Annie Carrell on May 14, 2007 at 4:49 pm

You know, I don’t think I’d ever seen a Clint Eastwood western until this weekend. But, I have to tell you, after seeing The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (which IMDB has attributed the keyword “legless person”), i might go on a binge. i would most definitely like to see this movie at the theatre, because my television (which is on the verge of breaking and keeps randomly muting and flashing the station number when I sit near it), really doesn’t do anyone’s cinematography justice. Really.

Because I absolutely hated Once Upon a Time in America, I kind of assumed i wouldn’t be a fan of Sergio Leone’s Westerns. That was stupid!! Obviously, I need to see these other films first, but I have a feeling that I’ll love them.

Also, Clint Eastwood was kind of super fine.
